Nicky Radcliffe

Writer

Nicky Radcliffe was born in Jane Austen country, deep in the heart of the English countryside, to a socially conservative church-going family. In keeping with tradition, she was sent to boarding school at the age of eleven. At art school in London she went through a brief rebellious stage, characterized by motorcycles, body piercings, and a peroxide crew-cut. Failing to find contentment, she somewhat reluctantly returned to the fold, and married a perfectly suitable man whom her parents adored.

After producing two children, she and her husband moved to Connecticut USA, where she immediately gave birth to two more. Confined to the suburbs, she started to have a nervous breakdown. After a series of unfortunate events led to the discovery that she was gay, she embarked on the complicated process of coming-out of the closet to her thoroughly bemused husband and startled family.

Nicky now resides mid-week in a nesting house in Connecticut, which she shares part-time with her ex-husband. She spends her weekends in a love-nest nearby with her life-partner. Her four children are staunch little advocates for the LGBTQ community.

She is currently working on the final draft of her memoir.

Her first published story is for The New York Times Modern Love
